You can use the UK as an example, they couldn't get London to toe the line for Brexit, so they created the myth of the London Liberal elite, made up the culture wars and moved into the old working class areas of the north east, to stir up that old working class nationalism. That did the trick. Only the big cosmopolitan multi-cultural areas progress, the rural, the shire counties all bite the nationalist bullet of Murdoch and his cronies in the right wing press.

They create false enemies, before it was foreigners, then Europe, now its all the LGBTQ in the cities, the liberal elites forcing their views on you hard working folk.
