Yes, you are correct about the meaning of Tye. The hamlet I am referring to is in Essex just above my village, Ingatestone. Situated between Brentwood and Chelmsford. Margaretting Tye is a lovely spot of houses around a pub. The village it is just outside is also called Margaretting.
