Wow! A nice story Jason, good luck to the both of you. I can't believe how many judgemental naysayers are on here responding.

It all worked out for you both and you have a good life and family so who should judge your actions at that early time. Maybe you are typical male, maybe you ain't, its nobodies business but you both.

I've travelled to those countries and had affairs and other liaisons whilst being married back home, there are 2 sides to every story. I've seen may of those marriages work and many fail or people getting ripped off also, that's life.

I was in Iran at 52 and mixing on business with a 23 year old interpreter, no relationship, purely professional when at a friend's Ramadan house dinner party the host's wife asked the interpreter my age and then does he want a second wife, meaning the interpreter! She related that to me and I was quite shocked, so I asked the young lady how she felt about that. Her reply, quite innocently "it's ok, my Dad is 70 and my mum only 45." followed up with a big smile and pointed nod and wherever we went after she stuck by me, even held my hand surreptitiously whenever she got the chance. I never took advantage of her and we never became lovers, though we do occasionally chat online. In that country and at that time it would not have been wise either but it was a great lesson in life and cultures. I also want to add that she was quite fat and the men in her business spoke in derisory fashion about her size. I felt that she was quite beautiful, facially, intellectually and professionally so her size had no bearing on my opinion and I often rue the missed chance back then. I didn't want an extra wife so it wasn't relevant.

I was no angel and did eventually succumb to a mistress situation in Thailand where that lasted 13 years and if the 'crash' of 12 years back hadn't happened I'd still be there. Hey ho, never judge, I've been there, bought the t-shirt, made all the mistakes and more so. Hormones and libido are strange things. Live your life forever happily with your family, it obviously works for both of you. Good luck.
