Who is behind the Qatari criticism? The UK press is notoriously racist but follow the money. Qatar has been estranged from its Saudi brothers for a while now, some of that because of the freedom to criticise it has given Al Jazeera. They would take great delight in causing the Qatari regime discomfort.

TCN labour (Third Country Nationals) are used throughout the Gulf and other middle Eastern countries for construction work, along with the likes of Western Engineers as their managers, of which I was one for 20 years. Conditions of contract were not always great but that was down to the main contractors, who these days are invariably also from the Indian sub-continent.

Who taught the Gulf States, who trained their police and security, lawyers etc? Mostly the western governments.

The cultural differences such as LGBTQ+ rights are often tolerated so long as they are behind closed doors. The better states to work are places like Qatar, Dubai, Bahrain certainly not Saudi Arabia where everything is heavily policed. Like anywhere, even the UK the mantra to follow is "Don't get caught" and you'll get by.
