What’s In a Name, Especially a Pen Name?

I have two ‘Noms de Plume’ and Brian George is the other that I use for my more commercial fiction. That is my plug for the week, but it should go some way to add to the About Me posts on Medium.

Why did I choose those names?

Well, my real first two names are Brian George my surname is Taylor and as in England that is as common as Smith, I just decided to drop it for my novels.

When I first started writing novels seriously, it was the erotic genre that appealed to me as the easiest to write. We all have so many memories of sexual encounters or other scenario’s that we’ve either watched as porn or read growing up from the old magazines like Playboy or Mayfair and the semi-serious pieces for titillation such as Forum. I am very well-read anyhow and I’d just finished a biography of Lord George Byron and his sensational scandal-filled life. Maybe it was the fact that he also had the name George that I decided to pinch his surname and switch it around for my own…
