“… Oh but now old friends they’re acting strange,
They shake their heads, they say I’ve changed
Well something’s lost, but something’s gained
In living every day …”

I cried today,
Watching Joni Mitchell play,
Those lyrics so prophetic
Fit these times divisive
Past contacts so predictive
Behave the same, stuck
Conservative
They suck,
Can’t move on,
Old empires so beloved,

We were conditioned
Persuaded
Indoctrinated
Move along
And understand
That change must come
The far-sighted and visionary

A new world is upon us
Embrace those possibilities
They’re divinatory
As I grow in my lover’s eyes
I lose the years
Not aging
Ripening
The love of her life
She utters, briefly
And brings more tears
Of joy to my person
