We had gone a few days looking over our shoulders and keeping close to each other, worried that Elle would come out of the shadows, but gradually we released the trauma. Togetherness, worked for us and we did plenty of self-analysis, had our lifestyle and liberality brought that attack on ourselves, was it our fault? After much consideration, we concluded that it wasn’t us, that maybe something had triggered what was once a considerate teacher into a bitter, twisted person.

Sandra made some discreet inquiries amongst her old friends at college to check if any of their friends had similar examples or her past brought out any ghosts. After a few days, we found out that Elle had returned to LA and gone underground, into therapy at a well-known clinic, a positive sign that she had shocked herself maybe?

We got a private detective to dig up her details, after all, we didn’t want her turning up unannounced again. What came back shocked us, no wonder she had turned schizoid. To go back to what had created her split personality you have to look at one person, her father. A Filipino who had escaped the Marcos regime in that country and after becoming involved in a drug-smuggling gang, he had made his money first as an assassin for Marcos’s undercover intelligence…
