It doesn’t surprise me at all. I worked there many years back and saw many such examples. The whole place is full of hypocrisy due to the laws. We broke most of them while there, certainly with regards to alcohol along with many others. As a westerner, you couldn’t survive without doing so. The hero of my books, Barry Parker made much of his money back bootlegging booze there.

No Saudi can be trusted not to tell on you to the authorities and they all have hang-ups due to the restrictive laws. I’ve seen Filippino ladyboys hawking sex at shopping malls, rich locals kerb-crawling guys as they come out of the gym. Good looking blonde-haired, straight European guys get approached by other men everywhere. It is probably the worst country I’ve ever been to.
