I'm the same, but out of my age group I'm unusual. When I try to explain how offensive some racist jokes are I'm called names by friends of over 40 years. These are the sort of reactionaries society has to convince. I tell my friends that sort of thing shows that we are all subconsciously racist and they just rail against me, BLM, the woke society, whatever. Now I'm a traitor, a snowflake etc. They can't accept that if they were in a black person's shoes it is offensive, they think like the old slaveowners and uppity nwords!
I've said before in one of my stories, that during an affair I had with a Nigerian woman and we were playfighting, she started tickling me and I blurted out "get away you little monkey!" She wasn't offended but she shocked me when she said, "that's what the white bosses used to say when we were kids. Get off you black monkey!" I was so mortified that I had not realised how offensive that sounded, it taught me a big lesson and I made it so forever after. That was about 20 years back and I've mixed more and am so colour blind these days.
