I often thought that those checks & balances that the USA had would stop the extremes of Trump, but they did not and nobody now can be sure of the outcome of the election until the new President takes his place. The world waits with baited breath and hope that this monster is gone and that your checks and balances can be updated to stop it ever happening again, whilst learning the lessons that brought about almost half of the population actually placing that cross on the ballot.
