I love Rome. Go there when one of the 6 Nations Rugby games are on and it is wild. Competes with Dublin well for that.
We had reserved rooms in a small hotel near the central railway station, there is a large piazza and many side streets with small bars and cafes, lots of competing singing.
It was summer and so hot that you had to throw open the large louvres onto the small balcony, and listen to some wonderful Italian Tenor standing on a table in a bar across the street singing arias to roars of approval from all the other balconies along the street.
