I didn't think it would change much. The compound life is ok as far as it goes, so long as the Mutawa leave them alone. Some camps would still get visits from them and especially at Xmas, when they would tear down decorations and such like.

My Indian staff were mostly Goan Christians with a couple of Hindus and I allowed them to make a tree in our site office out of cardboard material cartons covered in foil tapes and other baubles that they made using coloured marker pens. It was quite impressive and wholly illegal, but we put paper over the cabin windows and always kept the door locked, bearing in mind we were on site, not a compound. It was great for their morale as they got far more shit off the guards on site than I did. Any bit of defiance was good for my team building.
