I always put ketchup on everything when growing up in the UK. My brother and I always insisted on a brand called 'Chef' which was only available at the Co-op supermarket, rather than Heinz. I weaned my self off many dishes that I'd put it on, but there are still a few, mashed potato if we're having sausages and mash, shepherd's pie definitely, and always on the fish and chips.

As a teen I remember even adding it to a beef stew but not now.

As for wanting to know everything, maybe that's a USA trait, I couldn't care less unless it directly relates to me, I'd see that as being 'nosy'. My wife however is as 'nosy' as hell, even embarrassing, if say in a restaurant, she'll be focussed on other people'sconversation to the extent that she is almost leaning across & joining them.
