I might expand on some of the other things where we beat their system. Of course as a woman there you would only be allowed out wearing at the very least an Abaya, the black covering of everything except your face, you could at least back then get away with showing your face. Most of the wives from the married status ex-pat compounds would travel together to the shopping centres on a special bus. Other than that they had to stay on their compounds. They had good facilities on the compounds like swimming pools and gyms, but that was about the extent of life for them.
