Ha ha, very funny. As a Brit who worked in Houston on occasions I saw some who played up on it, but most were very gentlemanly, even the women.

Politically, yes most were frighteningly right of Gengis Khan.

The funniest thing that I saw though was when I took a cruise that went from Galveston and one of the functions onboard was line dancing, and this guy turned up in full cowboy gear, boots, spurs, chaps, hat, waistcoat the works. His suitcase must have been massive. We did have a few strange conversations with others at the bars and I noticed that nobody mixed with any blacks onboard except us.

When we stopped at Key West I wandered into Sloppy Joes for a beer and got chatting to a New Yorker guy at the bar and he was on vacation with his wife, who was interested in going on a future cruise, so wanted to check out the people and the boat. He was so funny about the fact that this particular cruise itinerary started in Texas, was why he didn't want to do that. He said it was way too redneck for him. It was for my wife also. We ended up as our best buddies onboard were a black couple from Louisiana, and a wild Latino couple who wowed us on the dance floor at the disco.
